Kumamoto Hotel Castle

The location is amazing for getting to the castle and a bunch of night life around downtown. We had a view of if the castle from our room and greatly enjoyed it. A food hall was basically just around the corner and featured various local dishes.

Parking is extremely limited. Our room had a random wet spot on the floor that never went away. The Wi-Fi was terrible and I just ended up using my phone as a hotspot.

Its a very good and spacious hotel. I reserved a standard room with 2 beds and the hotel room was much bigger than I expected. The location is very convenient. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from Kumamoto Castle. The staff are very friendly too.

Honestly, everything was great. Easily the best hotel I stayed at during my 3 week trip in Japan.

Location is very nice with view to the castle. Very near to a shotengai (shopping street) too.

no public bath. staff will discourage you to use the nearest sento; Daifukuyu. Please do use it for the experience. Wifi connection is very spotty; not acceptable for this level of hotel standard. Hotel is very "european" feel ?

Excellent location close to Kumamoto Castle, very convenient for sightseeing. The staff were courteous, friendly, and attentive throughout our visit

Beautiful large triple room. Newly renovated. Spotless and very well designed. Largest and nicest room we have had in our 3 week trip. Location great. Easy 15 min tram or bus to train. Next to castle and huge shopping street with many restaurants and bars.

Hallways etc have not been renovated. Clearly a classic old hotel. Appears they may be renovating rooms

Bed was very firm, asked for a mattress pad, and was only provided with some thin comforters. It helped some. No plug outlets near the bed

The hotel is old, the carpets in the room were very old and the room was old.We were supposed to get city view but we didn't . The view was the building of a side street.

It was conveniently located to the castle. Some of the staff were friendly and helpful when we had questions. When oaring the car the staff was most helpful. Being downtown, you are close to many restaurants and shopping. The arcade is steps away as is the city tram line. Restaurant recommendations nearby: Hakata Tempura, Cafe Bouche and (Teppanyaki Steak) Shabu-Shabu Kamon

The lobby was like a cavern…huge, basically no furniture…very uninviting. The restaurant upstairs with the view was not open. The Chinese restaurant downstairs was so bright you needed sunglasses, the bar was just the opposite…very dark you needed a headlamp. The staff in the bar were kind, but one could not get anything to eat in there. So the frustration was not with the staff but that the information about the hostel on line was not in sync with reality. Further we paid for a city view and I suppose technically that is what we had, though we were on only the third floor basically looking over a vast roof at a wall…and above the wall we could see a bit of a neighboring hotel. Again, not what we thought/expected. Rooms were pleasant but you need to like the color gray…lots of GRAY. If planning to go sightseeing outside of Kumamoto…to Amakusa, Takachiho Gorge, Mt Aso…you might choose a different hotel. This is in the heart of the city and it takes 30-45minutes to drive to the outskirts and get on your way to your destinations.

Location was great! Parking was in the premises. Staff were very helpful.

Room is dated, but spacious. AC took a while to cool down. We only got one room key and we had to leave it with the staff when we went out.
